The Little Cross-River Ferry

No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
Heraclitus

“A river is more than an amenity, it is a treasure.”

Oliver Wendell Holmes

She’s not like the sleek river cats which glide effortlessly over the water, visiting each stop . No, this little ferry which crosses the Brisbane river from one side to another, bounces up and down with the waves and whereas the cat hosts the horde of tourists who visit Brisbane each year, this little boat mainly services the locals travelling fromBulimba to Teneriffe and back. Rarely is it full and the captains always have time for a friendly chat. These journeys are contemplative treasures as I find that I can ponder on a thought or idea on the forward journey and return to it with greater clarity on the return journey.

Maybe its that particular form of movement, up and down up and down which has helped me reflect on the past year and my lifestyle and make new choices for the next year.

Sometimes it’s the little journeys in life which are the most transformative. ”

Sometimes it’s the journey which teaches you a lot about the destination”

Drake
