In Celebration of Small Things: Standing Still and Saturday Soccer

“Not every ROAD we come across in our daily life is one we have to take. Sometimes just standing still and being, can BE the best move we ever make.” ― Angie Karan

Within a few days I had travelled halfway across the world. But for the three months prior to that epic journey, I had travelled around the different regions and towns of France, speaking exclusively in the native language. When my daughter-in-law met me at Canberra airport, I realised just how far I’d travelled-and not only in miles or kms! When we arrived at my grandchildrens’school, it was a relief not to have to think first before speaking and their excitement was such a delight-I had missed them so much!

“The quality of life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention” Julia Cameron

“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” — Miriam Beard

Their concert that evening demonstrated just how much they had grown in my absence and I wondered about the inner changes in myself during this journey. I will need time on my own to be w till and reflect on this and meditate on new travel challenges which will passionately inspire me. In the meantime I’m very happy to witness the movement of others around me in the form of Saturday soccer and swimming lessons.
