Light sitting

I’ve been house sitting for over a year and I have to say its been one of the best times of my life. Freedom, trust, joy adventure, animal companionship, creativity, self, place, people and pet discovery are the major themes which permeate this20131231_094411 journey.

I try to travel lightly;just one suitcase, a handbag and tablet contain all the material provisions I need. At the end of every house sit, I let go of what I no longer need confident that there is always sufficient supplies at the next town or city I visit. As it’s an inner journey as well as an outer one, I try to release old habits, beliefs, thought and behaviours which no longer support me on this journey of personal growth. Each person and animal I meet becomes a teacher as does the part of the country where I stay.

“You’re brave ” is a comment a lot of people make when I describe my lifestyle. Some people think its wonderful and for others it produces fear because they cannot Imagine doing it. The thing is, we are all different and I’m a different person to the one I was only just three years ago when I could not have imagined living such a lifestyle. After Hamish, the last of my three animals died, I was faced with a choice; stay where I was and remain settled with new animals or take the risk and see what life had to offer. ? The risk paid off handsomely. I have had the pleasure of meeting and making new friends-both human and animal-and connecting with some very beautiful parts of Australia.

That’s not to say that there haven’t been challenges, but that is true of any life and the challenges have contained hidden gifts which I have discovered after reflection. I’ll be publishing each week on these reflections as I travel lightly across the land of Australia
